5:30

its 5:30, and Ian and I are still hanging out in the kitchen chatting/interneting/dotaing/etc.

I have to:
1. pack
2. clean
3. clean more
4. wash stuff
5. drive 600 miles

all before the end of teh day tomorow. I am now heading to bed. Last day in Houghton for the year, last day in my house really. Sort of sad about it almost, which is supprising 'cause normally I'd just head home and be like, "I'm done, woo woo", but yeah, I feel "mixed". Then again, you know how it is with me if you read my blog with any regularlity, posting at night = more sensitive/etc.

take a long drown with me..

Ian came up Tuesday night from Yipsi (however you spell that place). He is sleeping downstairs this very second!

Last night was the Lode party at Peter's house, it was a very good time. Matt Norman showed up, which was very sweet. Good to see everybody, even though I suppose I take the Lode for granted to some extent at this point in my life, I realize someday I will look back with misty nastalgia and remember how much I loved all of the people/situations/relationships there.

Not feeling so particularly peppy tonight. Then again it is 3:15 AM, and well, I'm tired. Which means I also start feeling overly emotional, etc, etc. Meh.

I think I'm going to head home Saturday night. Possibly late, depending on what time I end up "shoving off" from Tech. Its really weird, knowing that I COULD potentially leave right now and head home for summer, but I dont. I guess there just isn't the same "draw" or whatever, for obvious reasons. Still, I'm really pumped to get home and see my family (deffinetly including Izzy and Bear!), friends, etc. Plus, it will be good to have my summer job thing all figured out here sooner or later.

A few of my major summer goals this summer are to 1. meet new friends for my OWN sake, 2. get closer to my sisters. I feel like they are actually getting older now and I can have good chats with them. The thing is, even though this sounds terrible, it's sort of like meeing them over again. I've obviously known them all my life, but not so much as a close friend, more as an older brother, etc. I've always had great respect for both of my sisters, as people, younger people. I recently went running with Brittany and we had a great real chat about important things, I think for the first time ever. Thats not true, she's let me cry on her shoulders a few time durring previous breakups. Anthea is always there for me as well, and its nice being able to talk with her about stupid stuff, whatever. Its weird though, both Brittany and Anthea are very different, and sometimes its hard to keep things straight after not being so very "close" to them for so long. I love them though.

I guess thats about it.

twobike

In other news, a few days ago my friend and neighbor built a sweet ass bike.... well... yes, I suppose its still a bike. Pictures should tell the story (he is the tall guy with beard)

Oh, I also want to mention for my records that my mother has decided (despite my pleas) to paint the basement at my grandmothers so that it is a bit warmer/more inviting. I feel bad because she/we didnt evne do this when my entire family moved down there durring reconstruction/remodeling. I am looking forward to having a sweet pad though, I intend to get a couch or something so when I have people over we can hang out, watch TV comfortably, chat, etc.

Wow. Life really HAS been good so far...

So, I've wanted a Laser sailboat for sometime now (

) and I've been looking around in the old' internet for some time in hopes of aquiring just such a vesil. Well, I've had some luck, here and there, but nothing to spectacular. So yesterday I get an email from a guy telling me he has a great Laser that he is selling for 2 grand, but he would be willing to let me pay half now, half in a year. Very nice guy, but I didn't feel right about being in debt to somebody I didn't really know. So, I let him know that I appreciated the offer (especially to a stranger) but probably couldn't go through with it.

He emailed me back with some sailing clubs (Yacht Clubs) locally that I might look into. He also asked me what I was studying.

I emailed him back, thanked him for the info. I also let him know what I was studying (B.S. in Computer Science and B.S. in Bioinformatics). I figured seeing as how he asked about my acedemic life, he might be a "professional", and as of late (see below ;)) I've been looking everywhere for a job this summer. So I asked him if he knew of any places that might be hiering.

So, (brace yourself), he emails me back, TURNS OUT, he is the CEO of a pharmacuedical company in Kalamazoo. He didn't exactly offer me a job, but he was incredibly nice and gave me a few bits of contact information that I might try, as well as some general advice.

This might not blow your mind, but it should. What are the chances that a guy from a national laser sailboat forum would turn otu to be somebody so closely related to my major/field/etc? he even teaches a few classes at GVSU. Crazy. My mind is officially blown, and this fact has made my day seem considerably brighter, despite the terrible dreary weather/relationship stuff.

Also, to add some extremly fine tasting frosting to the cake, my mother informed me that my birthday present was in fact a loan for up to 3 grand. I have around 800 bucks of stuff I'm going to be selling, plus 200 dolars of a GIFT from my parents, plus a 1000 dollar loan == owning a 1988 laser sailboat that is fully rigged and ready to sail or even race. I feel extremly luckey. No doubt as the night progresses and I become more tired/worn out from studying I shall again feel the pangs of depression/lonelyness, but hopefully remembering this incredible bout of luck will do something to lift my spirits :)

life's been good to me so far...

It has been a difficult couple of days (possibly an understatement). Still, I suppose I'm a luckey person, having the things I have, and have had, and no doubt will have. Sound somewhat cryptic? I suppose thats because it is!!! :)

Exam tomorow, Haven't done as much as I could/should have for it. I'm probably going to end up with a terrible grade in it (C/D) which I'm less than thrilled with. Too bad really. But, as of now my other classes (bio/OS) have priority as far as studying goes. I will keep a GPA above a 3.0 as long as I do decent in genetics/OS. You might not care to know this, I however someday will (well, maybe not, but just in case ;)). [edit: actually, I could pull off a B in OS and POSSIBLY a B in bio, but more likely a C possibly a BC, which means I am doing pretty well. I opted not to take my PL exam as there is no way I'm giong to do well on it and at this point I'd rather concentrate on the classes that are going to really matter]

Nick and I resorted to using note cards to have a conversation today[edit: yesterday]. For no great reason really, besides we were studying and being a bit stupid I suppose. Conversation went something like this [edit: note this is over a 2 day period, and the writing that is really terrible is probably mine, the writing that is strange is probably mine, the writing that is a bit nicer and more uniform is probably his. Also note that you may not care to read this, however someday it might be an interesting thing to remember for myself.]:

jobs jobs jobs

Hey everybody!

This is a sort of odd thing, but I figure there are probably enough people who check here that its worth a shot.

Basically, I was hoping to get this internship at Hope this summer, then a possible internship at Boeing, however this has yet to happen.

While there are several jobs I know I can work this summer, most of them are pretty miserable.

So, if anybody has any spectacular places a guy such as myself might be able to work, let me know!

my ultra short non official resume looks like this:
I can cook
I can clean
I can fix computers
I can build computers
I can program, write scripts
I can design webpages, and create them
I can program in Java, C, C++, Perl
I can shoot weddings, senior pictures, events
I can wash
I can wait tables
I can NOT spell
I can use the office sweet
I can do photo work
I can do basically anything relating to computers
I can do Origami
I can teach/tutor math up through Calc 2
I can do manual labor
I can be quite or loud
I dont mind boring, repetative work
I can drive long distances
I can work long hours (though would prefer a monday-friday type job)

If anybody has a more "serious" job that requires a resume I can provide one of these as well.

If anybody knows anybody looking for somebody with such a skill set, let me know!

EDIT: Possible non work safe image below

BTW, drag show was this weekend, as always I go to take photos for the news paper.

This particular girl (if you will) had a very impressive outfit... Apparently duct tape + glue + prayer is how this magic is done.

intoxicated lights

intoxicated, nick, andrew, jim, and a bunch of other people who randomly walked by sat on top of all our cars tonight watching the most beautiful display of the northern lights i've ever seen, while kevin eders boomtooms and nick's ipod blasted "dark side of the moon" in the streets... sometimes, i hate houghton, but sometimes, its pretty damn nice.
